This is the boominess that people experience when a rear ported speaker is place closed to a rear wall.

I think that front ported designs are better for that purpose as they can be placed closer to rear walls.
Give those ports room to breathe and you ll experience a much more even frequency response across the soundstage the ability for the left and right speakers to create a lifelike representation of the audio experience.

My problem is that i can only position them so that the back of the speaker is only about one foot from the wall behind it.
Even if you are using the front speakers above 80hz or so it seems like a bad idea to mount rear ported spaekers on the wall.

In a perfect world set your listening position more than 3m 9 8 feet from the wall behind the speaker regardless of the distance of the speaker to the wall assuming normal setup.
Any thoughts on this.

One more tip is to ensure that your rear ported speakers aren t placed on a bookshelf or against a wall.
Any back ported speaker with a port diameter of 2 for example will work just fine placed up to a wall as long as there is 2 of space behind the port.
